Summary: Includes exterior and interior views of an addition built 1954-1960, to the Harris Trust and Savings Bank at 111 West Monroe Street in Chicago (Ill.), designed by architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Exterior views show a stainless-steel-and-glass, high-rise building in a context of older, brick, high-rise office buildings. The Harris building, eight bays wide and three bays deep, features prominent mullions, a ground-level colonnade, and a two-story mechanical-services level that is recessed behind the bay columns midway up the building's height. Exteriors also include an open, internal courtyard with pool and fountain, marble walls, and potted trees. Interiors include executive offices, a glass-walled dining room that faces a marble-paneled, outdoor courtyard with fountain, and officers' desks in the main banking area.
Interiors also include a circular conference room with walls of vertical wood slats and a round table, a larger, marble-walled boardroom with oblong table for twenty people, and the main banking hall, which has terrazzo floors, stainless-steel columns, glass walls, and acoustical ceiling with cross-shaped channels of fluorescent lighting. Many interiors include bank executives, support staff, and customers. There also were later additions.
