Description of the collection:

Primarily photographs of activities and the people of the Erie Neighborhood House located at 1347 West Erie Street in Chicago's near west side. Includes interiors and exteriors of the facilities, medical service, educational activities and special events. Also includes many scenes of the surrounding community, and before and after views of a community clean-up campaign.

 

Founded in 1870 as Holland Presbyterian Church; 1882 became Noble Street Mission of the Third Presbyterian Church; 1886 Erie Chapel built; 1915 Erie Chapel Institute incorporated; 1936 became Erie Neighborhood House. Florence H. Towne was head resident for many years.
