Biographical Sketch:
Kathleen Collins was born in Chicago in 1945. She received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Stanford University in 1967 and a master's degree in fine arts from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in 1978. The following year she received an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her photography has been exhibited at the Chicago Historical Society (1982), RIT Photo Gallery (1983), Indiana University of Fine Arts Gallery (1984) and the Village Gate Art Center in Rochester, N.Y. (1986). Currently she is an associate professor in the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences at RIT.

Description of the Collection:
Photographs of interiors of buildings along Chicago's main traffic artery, State Street, by professional photographer Collins in 1980 and 1981. Includes specialty and department stores, hotels, housing projects, residential buildings, the Pacific Garden Mission for homeless people, the Playboy mansion, American Legion Post #87, the Chicago Theater, the main Chicago police station, school rooms, lobbies of office buildings, a pinball arcade, a bowling alley, a gymnasium and a barbershop. Photographs do not depict people in these settings.
