Primarily photographs of newsworthy events and people relating to Chicago's Loop commercial district and near North side. A large portion is comprised of individual and group portraits, approximately half of which are identified. Group portraits document political and organizational events; presentations of awards, gifts and portraits; anniversaries and receptions. Individual portraits represent business leaders, politicians, judges, law enforcement agents, TV celebrities, and football coach Mike Ditka. United States presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and Nixon are depicted. Women are frequently shown participating in charitable events or organizations. A few portraits show women in relation to work as switchboard operators and student nurses. One woman is identified as a site artist. Includes photographs of children, dogs and zoo animals. Also includes views of buildings, street scenes and cityscapes. The John Hancock Center and Sandburg Village apartment complex are both featured.
