Description of the Collection

Includes approximately 1378 photoprints, 3436 contact proof prints, 7374

negatives, 300 tear sheets, 608 color transparencies and a portfolio forming part

of the photographic archive of professional photographer and Chicagoan Stephen

Deutch, ca. 1932-1970.  (The remainder of the archive was deeded earlier and

accessioned under G1980.58.)  The collection consists primarily of images for

advertising assignments, photographic essays (some of which formed exhibitions)

and travel photographs.  Advertising work includes a few early jobs in Paris

(1932-1936), but is primarily mature work for Chicago area manufacturers, retail

businesses and publications.  The collection contains a few portraits of Chicago

and national personalities, a series of nude studies, and work using experimental

photographic techniques.
