Description of the collection:

Black-and-white photographic prints and negatives relating to railroad properties in Chicago. Images depict the construction of Chicago's Union Station during the 1920s including a few group portraits of principal men and the U.S.O. facility in the station in 1955.  The area around the station is documented by snapshots taken in 1964.  A large segment of photographs shows railroad and tunnel construction under the post office at Van Buren & Congress Streets, ca. 1920-1965.  Another area of focus is Canal Street, the Chicago River and adjacent railroad properties between 1800 South and 600 North.  Many photographs seem to have been commissioned by railroad companies and bear with some identifying information. Negatives show unidentified railroad tracks and yards (ca. 1940s) and Canal Street railroad crossing, 1959.
