Biographical

Charles
E. (Chuck) Cooper was a teacher for the Chicago Public Schools. He began his
career
at Lane Technical High School in 1952.
Two years later he moved to Howland
Elementary
School on Chicago's west side. In 1958
he transferred to the Davis branch
of
Kelly High School on the south side of the city. In 1963 or 1964 he taught at
Amundsen
High School on the city's north side.
In the early 1970s he taught art classes
at Lane
Tech until he retired in 1985. At Lane
Tech, he also sponsored the Photography
Club
and oversaw photography for the school yearbook.
Description
of the collection
This
collection consists of visual materials apparently accumulated during Cooper's
last
assignment
at Lane Tech High School. It includes
photographs, negatives, and slides
primarily
relating to high school activities, such as dances, events, musical and
theatrical
productions,
photography club, and sports. It also
includes students, graduation
ceremonies,
and International Night. A second focus
of the collection is Chicago scenes
and
events, notably art exhibitions, trade fairs, Venetian Night, Ginza Festival,
and a
Taste
of Chicago. Some scenes show street
views, museums and cultural institutions, and
cityscapes.
