Summary: Photographs by David Fishman of theatrical performances and portraits of actors in costume at the Drury Lane Theater, the Yiddish Theater Association, the Lyric Opera, and the Goodman Theatre.  Many photographs are unidentified, but the collection does include a series of photographs related to the following performances: Academy, the Witch (by the Yiddish Theater Association); Sunday in New York (Drury Lane); in 1976 at Drury Lane: Under Papa’s Picture; I Do I Do; The Philanthropist; Last of the Red Hot Lover’s; Doll’s House; To Be Young; Bus Stop; The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wild.

Brief biography: David H. Fishman (1914-1977) was born in Chicago and attended Tuley High School and the Art Institute of Chicago (graduated 1938). In addition to being a stage designer, production designer, and technical director of a semi-professional theater company in Chicago, Fishman became the theatrical photographer for noted Chicago theater companies including the Lyric Opera, the Goodman Theatre, the Drury Lane Theater (in Lincolnshire, IL), the Happy Medium, and the Academy Playhouse.
