Summary description of the collection:
This
collection consists of twelve school record books from three different Chicago
area schools; West Division High, William McKinley High and English High and
Manual Training School, which later became Crane Technical High School. These
records mainly consist of registers of pupils and registration background
information on the pupils from these three different schools, dating from
1879-1916. Two of the schools, West Division High and William McKinley High,
were basic liberal arts schools, whereas English High (later Crane Technical
school) is a technical school with little emphasis on the liberal arts.
The
students mainly originate in the Chicago area and on the average were good
students as evidenced by their grades. The twelve record books are divided into
three series chronologically, according to the schools. Each series consists of
register books arranged chronologically and mainly include student's dates of
entrance and graduation, grades, averages and ages. Series 3 contains an extra
historical scrapbook in addition to the registers
